Calling Western Sydney Storytellers!

CuriousWorks is looking for 8 writers and 2 producers from diverse backgrounds to join our exciting Behind Closed Doors Program.

We're launching a new screen industry program that will give the sector a much-needed injection of fresh voices and untold stories from Western Sydney. It's called Behind Closed Doors and is supported by Screen Australia's Enterprise Ideas program.

The selected participants – 8 emerging writers and 2 emerging producers - will be supported by CuriousWorks and our fantastic partners on the program - Sheila Jayadev and Lyn Norfor from Emerald Productions and writer and producer Blake Ayshford - to create together a series of six, interconnected short films. The anthology of films will be developed with television, online screening and theatrical exhibition outcomes in mind.

A range of screen peak bodies will also help participants get a leg up in the industry through workshops, placements, training and critical support with career development and networking.

The program is open to Western Sydney residents from a culturally and linguistically diverse background who are emerging writers or producers. Actors, content creators and other creatives from any art form that are thinking of making their first steps towards writing or producing for
screen are also encouraged to apply.

Las Rosas Kickstarter Campaign

CuriousWorks is proud to announce the launch of our Las Rosas Kickstarter campaign!

Our Curious Creators have worked tirelessly on this web-series since December 2016, leading the way in its writing, directing, shooting and editing. Our post-production campaign will not only allow them to complete the series with panache but will further support our young artists in their next project.

Support our young artists in their mission to change the landscape of Australian media, one story at a time!

Back the Kickstarter now

From the suburbs of Mt. Druitt and the streets of Liverpool, Latin camp and glamour come to Western Sydney in Las Rosas, Australia's first telenovela.

On the eve of Marisol’s 15th birthday, her mother died, and she had a funeral instead of a party. Years later, Marisol is striving to plan the Quinceañera (a Latina coming-of-age ceremony) she never had for Mariana, her younger sister. As Mariana's birthday approaches, the women clash over love, family, and cultural ties, jeopardising not only the
party but their sisterhood.

ReFILL - Miller High Freshers Off to a Flying Start

As part of our yearly ReFILL Program, Curious Creators Shawn Spina and Adam McPhibin collaborated with guests artists Eric Avery (dance), Howard Matthew (visual arts) and the staff at Miller Technology High to deliver an exciting induction workshop for the year 7 students on their second day at school. The crew went on an excursion to the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and participated in a number of icebreakers, with lots of dancing and art-making involved.

The workshops will run throughout the year with heaps of hands-on creative learning under the leadership of award-winning artist Sarah Emery, our Community Director Caitlin Newton-Broad and crew of Curious Creators.

ReFILL is an ongoing arts-in-schools partnership between CuriousWorks and Miller Technology High School. The project has been generously supported by the Crown Foundation and the Packer Family Foundation and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.
