It’s time to look back on what we have achieved in the past year, as 2017 has been a significant year for us at CuriousWorks in terms of artistic development as well as progress made by our young Curious Creators.
Artistically, it was a time of intense creative development with many high profile projects. The Colony works – Laka, A Counting and Cracking, and When the Tide Comes In – took great strides forward in both story and partnership development. Each of these works explores big ideas and universal themes: love, politics, family, land… but their big ideas come at you from places you might not expect – a wedding in 70’s Sri Lanka; the Arnhem Land wilderness; a 22nd-century refugee shelter. The works all plunge you into Another Australia and we can’t wait to start sharing them with you in 2018.
We are extremely proud to witness the growth and progress the artists we have been nurturing for years have made during the past year. For the first time, the Curious Creators led the creation of their own work – Las Rosas, a distinctive new web-series bringing Latina telenovela to the streets of Western Sydney. The Curious Creators have taken on nearly every role in this project – from writing to directing to editing to marketing. Look out for this funny, melodramatic, fabulous story on your screens in 2018.
