Join us for an evening celebrating our new works in development! Spring calls for fresh beginnings and new artworks! The team at CuriousWorks have been working alongside emerging creatives all year, building skills and progressing a series of new works in development, especially for presentation at this year’s Urban Stories: En Route 2022. Urban Stories is CuriousWork’s annual showcase and this year’s event will be a filled with an exciting preview of new works by emerging artists from the Curious Creators Program, the Refugee Artist Development Program and our new mentorship program, Testing Grounds. Artists from the Curious Creators Ensemble have been the driving force behind CuriousWorks’ grassroots programs: ReFILL, FUNPARK and GENerate 2168. They have also been the lead creatives on ‘meet me at the next stop’ and our new zine, ‘Handle with Care’. The Refugee Artist Development Program supports newly arrived creatives from refugee backgrounds to navigate the creative industries in NSW, with a focus on developing new work, employment and/or education skills. Testing Grounds is a one-on-one mentorship program supporting emerging artists as they develop their individual creative projects. Artists from each of these programs have been working steadily towards a showing of artworks in development over the year and Urban Stories is a fantastic platform for CuriousWorks’ family and friends to see what’s brewing!We hope you can join us for Urban Stories: En Route 2022Thursday 17 November 2022 6pm at Blacktown Arts

meet me at the next stop

En Route to Blacktown Arts!

‘meet me at the next stop’ is an anthology-style mixed media immersive installation exploring everyday experiences of commuting and living in Western Sydney. Staged on a replica bus-stop, this Curious Creator led collaborative work comprises a combination of digital, video and audio artworks, including Portraits Of Comfort, Rise and Grind Inc and Bus to Bankstown, Keys, Wallet, Mask and A Keen Sense of Lateness. The various creative elements are amplified by the overall bus stop structure and audiences are invited into the struggles, anxieties and joys of the artists’ everyday lives.

The works’ first stop was the colourful FUNPARK Festival in March this year and now we are happy to announce that ‘meet me at the next stop’ will be making its next stop at…..Blacktown Arts!

‘meet me at the next stop’ is on show from 17 November to 3 December 2022 at Blacktown Arts. Stay tuned for more info!

CuriousWorks @ WOW Festival 2022

Way Out West (WOW) Festival 2022 was a blast! CuriousWorks, alongside the amazing team at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, collaborated to bring you seven days of marvelous activities, student artworks and art experiences. After two years of cancellations due COVID-19, the WOW Festival was back with a bang - and an extended program over seven days! And what a busy seven days it was!! The CuriousWorks team added the broader event with our regular WOW Kids Reporter program and an extraordinary exhibition and green screen workshop delivered by the ReFILL Program. The ReFILL Program @ WOW

As a part of ReFILL 2022, Miller Technology High School students created a series of artworks to be exhibited at the WOW Festival, inspired by and responding to creative activities delivered by this years ReFILL’s workshop facilitators - Sandra May, Samantha Barahona and Amira Halabi. The ReFILL Arts-in-Education program celebrated its seventh consecutive year in 2022 (thanks to the support of Crown Resorts Foundation and Packer Family Foundation), and to acknowledge this, we also showcased many of the amazing past works created through this fantastic in-school arts program. Alongside this, the ReFILL team and Miller Technology students delivered two days of interactive green screen workshops, where kids could make their own green-screen backdrops, which were then uploaded and visible on a big screen through an interactive webcam for audiences to engage with.

Curated by Sandra May, all the works were marvelous and brought the entire experience together.

Kids Reporters @ WOW

The Kids Reporters Program returned to WOW Festival this year with a talented group of 14 kids, aged 8-12 years, putting their camera and interview skills to the test. The program is a facilitated filmmaking and citizen journalism program, where local kids were trained up and then put to work documenting the vast array of wonderful activities on offer over the first two days of WOW Festival, as well as filming audience vox-pops and artist interviews. They did an amazing job at collecting footage of the festival with the support of this year’s Kids Reporter facilitators, Sivani Yaddanapudi, Shawn Spina and Andres Rodriguez.
